On April 24, 2010, you have an opportunity to participate in a church event called Spring Fling, a church event that brings church members together for a different kind of event - a service-oriented auction. A lot of work goes into this activity and that’s where you come in. Soliciting donations, picking up donations, organizing donations, displaying them, all the data processing to keep things straight, keeping the money straight, organizing the very important food, providing entertainment for the very important children while the parents snap up bargains - and check with anyone who was there last year: what bargains there are to be had!

The committee, chaired by Dorothy Hollahan, is hard at work. Volunteers at the table in the lobby of the church can answer your questions or email auction@richmonduu.org.  Deadline for turning in your form to get your items in our snazzy catalogue is March 29!  See donation page for forms.

And this year, the event itself promises to be a little faster, a little bit more fun and a little bit more of a bargain for you. A new auctioneer will bring a new tone and the committee is determined that the great demand for more social events, hosted dinners and sponsored activities will be met. It’s all about building community. We’ve heard there were not enough opportunities to bid on these events so we are looking for more this year. Please begin thinking about a fun event you can host or service you can provide. We are also looking for people to share their skills and talents in things they do or make. Be creative, think outside the box. Let’s concentrate on fostering our UU community.

And, in addition to our own events and services - some very-much-in-demand items have come from businesses and services in the community that our members patronize. Think about places you frequent and ask about donation or gift certificates from restaurants, stores, golf facilities, time shares, spas, etc. The more successful we are at donation collections, the more successful and fun our auction will be.
