Soulful Supper
Soulful Suppers – 1st Wednesdays
Soulful Suppers are simple meals (soup and salad is typical) that are prepared and served by various small groups once a month, usually on the first Wednesday evening, at 6:45 pm between Vespers and Singers. Volunteers, N2N groups, and other small groups are encouraged to sign up for a month to prepare and serve the meal, and the groups are encouraged to use the Soul Matters theme or a holiday to inspire their meal.
Our monthly Soulful Suppers will resume on Wednesday, September 3rd, and continue each 1st Wednesday of the month through May 6th, 2026. The September 3rd event will be hosted by the Kitcheneers, giving us a chance to drive the Kitchen around the block as 1st UU reopens after the Summer.
We are asking all you Groups to check your calendars, and sign up to host a Soulful Supper on First Wednesdays, Oct. 1st; Nov. 5th, Dec. 3rd, Jan.7th, Feb. 4th, Mar. 4th, Apr. 1st, or May 6th.
It’s a great time to get your Group together for fellowship and a family dinner. You can line it up with any special Holy Days your Group celebrates; remember, Soulful Supper dates also align with monthly Vespers!
Expecting to feed a Thundering Horde of somewhere between 30 and 60 fellow UU diners, we are seeking:
Wednesday, April 2’s Soulful Supper (immediately following 6 pm Vespers) will be a “Stone Soul Supper” event, which is on the order of a “Loaves & Fishes” event, but in all likelihood offers no fish.
Looking for examples of 1st UU’s Radical Hospitality? Here’s an excellent one.
- Salads – we usually get by on 3 or 4 nice big salads & dressings.
- Loaves – at least 3 loaves of bread, at least one of which is gluten free.
- Entrees – 3 or 4 crockpot style dishes, at least one vegan, at least one gluten free, at least one dairy free. Experience suggests we have more omnivores than vegetarians.
- Deserts – 2 or 3 desserts, No Nuts! At least one gluten free, one dairy free.
Please bring your dishes-to-share before 6:15 pm, so we can open the buffet at 6:45
Come, break bread with a room full of other UU’s making plans to Save the World on Wednesday evening. Feel free to come early to help set up, or stay late (till about 8:30 pm) to help clean up.
Kitcheneers To Form Teams!
What do you enjoy most about having friends over?
Kitcheneers is rearranging itself into Teams to allow You to do what you love most about entertaining guests, and even avoid what you most dislike about it. You can belong to as many Kitcheneer Teams as you like! Here we go:
- Coffee Ministry – Ensure coffee & beverage service is up and ready for Church Services and special events.
- Soulful Supper – Assist the host Groups in set-up, serving, and clean-up for monthly dinners.
- Thanksgiving – Coordinated by Amy Baldwin & Su Boer, the Team makes sure everything – Everything, upstairs and down – goes smoothly at 1st UU’s Annual Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner.
- Special Events – Serve our Beloved Community by presenting gracious and hospitable food & beverage service for Celebrations of Life and Memorial Services, VIP visits, Cabarets, Special Dinners, and the like. The Team will have members to run the Kitchen Equipment, Table Setting, Wait Staff & Runners, and Food & Beverage Preparation.
- Foodies – If Cooking for Others is your deal, this is where you want to be. You can cook at home and bring it in for the event, or use our fine Kitchen to prepare “in situ.”
- Steering Committee – This committee oversees All Things Kitchen. For any questions you may have but don’t know who to ask, contact Kitcheneers@richmonduu.org.
Separate email addresses will be set up for each team, to make sure you’re not bombarded by emails that don’t pertain to you.
Also, a new Kitcheneer enrollment form is in the works, so you can sign up for the Teams that suit your fancy. The Kitcheneer Volunteer Form will be rolled out at the Small Group Fair on September 21st.

Kitchen Sink
A reminder, if you use Kitchen cookware and dishes during the week: Please don’t leave dirty dishes sitting in the sink! Dried on food is never good. You don’t have to turn on the dishwasher for a small number of items, but please do rinse them completely and leave them on the counter next to the Dishwasher. Taking personal responsibility greatly eases the task of those preparing a meal for other members of the congregation.
