Rev. Sherman Scam Email
With the holidays fast approaching, First UU wanted to share a scam example. The scam email below was received by congregation members on Oct 17 @ 9:03 am.
Suspicious Scam Clues
- fake Gmail account: Newsletters and and other emails come from @richmonduu.org communications
- vague subject line does not indicate reason for email
- Hi with no name
- vague help language in the body of the email: bit a a bind
- secretive language that is also grammatically awkward: something that needs discreet handling
- False urgency: Please email me back as soon as you can.
- Critical thinking: Contacted via email and asked to email back. Vague information given to cause confusion. Real reason: for email back is to capture your email address and fall into scam digital mousetrap
- Email signature has incorrect name, and title
