Courtyard entrance
The church is located across the street from Byrd Park and Dogwood Dell, near the Carillon. The different entrances offer different options based on individual needs. In accordance with our value of radical hospitality, here is some accessibility information to help you make the best informed decision.
There are curb cuts on the Blanton Avenue side of the church at the corners with Garrett Street and with Douglasdale Rd.
There are no curb cuts directly in front of the church. On the left-hand side of the courtyard (next to the first Unitarian Universalist sign) is a concrete walkway lasting about one hundred and 50 feet to the accessible automatic door button and entrance. In the middle of the courtyard are slates and stones that can be slippery during wet weather. On the right-hand side there is a railing with some steps. The courtyard also has a bike lane in front of it.
Parking lot entrance
The parking lot has two entrances, one on Douglasdale Road and one on Garrett St. The parking lot is gravel with a mild incline. It may be slippery for some people with walkers or wheelchairs. There is a white ramp near the door that does not have a railing.
There are a couple of partially paved handicapped parking spaces at the Garrett St. side of the lot.
Other transportation options
People with disabilities can use the GRTC Care Van and other rideshare services. Adults who are age 80 and above are also eligible for the GRTC.
