Job Title: Part-Time Technical Director
Reports to: Senior Minister
Hours: 10–15 hours per week (including Sundays and major church events)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Hourly)
Compensation:20.00-25.00 per hour

Position Summary:
The Technical Director supports the mission and values of our Unitarian Universalist congregation by ensuring accessible, inclusive, and technically smooth worship services and community events. This position oversees audio, video, lighting, and livestream systems; supports worship leaders, musicians, and speakers; and helps foster a welcoming, multigenerational worship environment—both in person and online.
Key Responsibilities:
Worship & Program Support
- Manage all technical elements of weekly Sunday services, including:
- Audio mixing (for in-person and online audiences)
- Video projection (e.g., slides, videos, lyrics)
- Livestreaming (e.g., Zoom, YouTube, OBS)
- Lighting and camera setup
- Arrive early and stay through teardown on Sundays; troubleshoot issues as needed.
- Coordinate with ministers, musicians, and worship teams to support meaningful, inclusive worship experiences.
Tech Support Staff Coordination
- Recruit, train, and support tech staff of varying experience levels.
- Maintain user-friendly guides for equipment and procedures.
- Schedule staff for Sunday and special events; provide leadership and backup as needed.
Equipment & Infrastructure Maintenance
- Maintain all AV, livestreaming, and recording equipment.
- Recommend and help implement system upgrades within budget.
- Track tech supplies and software licenses; work with staff to ensure ongoing functionality and access.
Special Services & Rentals
- Provide tech support (or coordinate staff) for major events such as memorials, weddings, and justice-focused community gatherings.
- Consult with building users or rental groups to ensure proper use of church tech systems (may include occasional compensated overtime).
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Audio mixing (live and/or digital)
- Livestreaming platforms (Zoom, YouTube, OBS, or similar)
- Presentation software (ProPresenter, PowerPoint, Keynote, or Google Slides)
- Ability to train and support assisting staff with patience and clarity.
- Strong troubleshooting and organizational skills.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with people of diverse identities and experiences.
- Appreciation for Unitarian Universalist values of inclusion, interdependence, and spiritual exploration.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a faith-based or nonprofit setting.
- Familiarity with UU worship and culture.
- Basic video editing skills and familiarity with Mac-based systems.
- Experience in theater tech, media production, or hybrid (multi-platform) events.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- Regular Sunday morning presence required, along with occasional weeknight or weekend events.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs; move AV equipment and adjust lighting/camera setups.
- Occasional use of ladders and working in small or elevated tech spaces.
