Adult Formation offers opportunities for adults to grow their faith and reflect on their spiritual journey. There is no one way to grow in faith as an adult. We offer Practice Groups that meet weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly. We offer classes Fall, Winter, and Spring on a range of topics. We offer opportunities to join Small Groups at Fall and Winter Sign Up Sundays. Small Groups are caring circles that offer service to the church and wider community and reflect on our monthly themes.

Addiction Education Group

This is an addiction literacy group designed to promote a better understanding of the true facts of this serious, complex, and so often misunderstood issue. It is not a support or self-help group.

Civil Conversations

Meets Monday at 6:30 pm

Dogwood Spirit Circle

Dogwood Spirit Circle is to provide a supportive fellowship for those practicing diverse pagan, earth-centered, and esoteric traditions. United by our reverence for nature and our exploration of the unseen realms, we honor each member's unique path-from the tangible earth to the sacred craft-while aligning with the inclusive, wisdom-seeking values of Unitarian Universalism.

HUUmanist Group

The HUUmanists gather for conversation after service on the first Sunday of each month. Occasionally there will be a speaker, someone from within the congregation or from the larger community. We also sponsor the food collection for FeedMore.

Jewish Lives of UU

Were you raised in the Jewish faith?  Do you have interest in learning about one of our oldest religions and how it can relate to life and practice at First UU?  Join us on the first Monday of each month for conversation on Jewish theology, traditions, and open discussion of our own faiths as it relates to our relationship with Judaism.  In this group, we will cover the Torah, religious texts, rabbinical teachings, media representation, our own spiritual journeys, and anything else that comes up.

UU Christian Fellowship

As progressive Christians, we celebrate the life and teachings of the first-century Jesus of Nazareth. Ours is an evolutionary faith that is more interested in behavior than beliefs, compassion than creeds, and mystery than absolutes. If you want to explore the questions of faith and to safely share life’s journey with those who have similar interests, check us out. Meets first Tuesdays at 7 pm virtually.

UU Buddhist Meditation Group

The Buddhist Meditation group is a drop-in group that meets Mondays at 1 pm in the Great Hall. We have a short Sutra and chant session, 20-minute silent meditation, followed by a 10-minute walking meditation, and ending with a 15-minute seated meditation. Please be ready to start promptly at 1 pm.

Soul Matters Reflection Groups

First UU uses Soul Matters monthly themes for worship and religious education. These same themes are also used for small groups, which allow participants to directly experience the themes and go deeper into them more personally. The monthly materials include spiritual practices, activities, meaningful quotes, videos, and podcasts with which you engage on your own and then come together once a month to share your experiences within your group. This sharing provides an opportunity for individuals to make deep and meaningful connections and create community. As we grow in spirit and in community, we are more able to act in the service of justice and figure out what is ours to do!

Women’s Sojourn

Our group has been meeting for 30+ years, focusing on women’s spirituality and other women’s issues, and building strong bonds in a sisterhood. The group opens to new members at least once a year, so if you’re interested in joining, we’ll add you to our contact list for future openings.
