SOCKS & SNEAKERS COLLECTION FOR RECYCLING

Presented by the Earth Care Team

Did you know?  Old sneakers can be recycled.  And so can your socks!

Socks put in landfills contribute 5,025 tons of carbon emissions into the atmosphere annually. When collected socks become a source of up-cyclable materials, they reduce the environmental impact of the cloth, and whatever is made from them next. And Americans throw away 300 million pairs of shoes annually.  Discarded shoes can take up to 40 years to decompose, but every 100 pairs recycled, helps save around 3,000 lbs. of carbon dioxide emissions.

SO…. Bring your CLEAN SOCKS and OLD ATHLETIC SHOES to church on Dec. 14. We will send them in for recycling.

Any sock will do. It does not need to be a pair, but PLEASE DO wash them before bringing.  Athletic shoes can include running, basketball, gym, training, and cleats (RUBBER Only).

Look for the Earth Care Table in the lobby after church on Dec. 14.

Stay tuned for exciting upcoming topics on our environment & tips on WHAT YOU CAN DO!

Eating for Sustainability: A luncheon and interactive workshop

Location: Lower Level

Sponsored by the Earth Care Team

12:30-1:30, following the Community Justice Fair

Have you ever wondered about the environmental impact of the foods you eat? Are some foods more eco-friendly than others? Is there a way to measure this? How do people choose what foods to eat? Where are you on the “food sustainability spectrum”?

We’ll start with a yummy lunch featuring eco-friendly dishes and then move into an engaging workshop to explore these and other related questions. No preaching or judgement will be involved, just good information and lively conversations.

Registration is required as seating is limited. If you wish to skip the lunch and only attend the workshop, please so note on your registration on this Eating Sustainably Google Form.
