Want a Free Tree?
Cool the City is giving away free trees to anyone who lives in Jackson Ward, Northside, Southside, Eastend and Randolph. Join Virginia Interfaith Power and Light and Cool the City at one of their upcoming tree giveaways and tree maintenance workshops:
Saturday, May 30th 12 to 5pm
Third Street Bethel AME Church
Saturday, June 6th, 12 to 5pm
Second Baptist Church
They will have plenty of trees to choose from, including Redbuds, Dogwoods, Pin Oaks, Fringe Trees, and Sweetbay Magnolias. RSVP to reserve your tree! Walk-ups are also welcome, but those who register in advance will be given priority.
Cool the City is a collaborative, city-wide campaign aimed at enhancing health outcomes, fostering community wealth, and bolstering climate resilience in the city of Richmond. To learn more, go to coolthecity.com.

“Cool the City Tree Knowledge Workshops
The Cool the City Campaign is a city wide effort to combat Urban Heat Island Effect through the historically disadvantaged communities in Richmond. We are contracting at least 5 people from each faith congregation we work with to be Climate Connectors who will go through 4 workshops and a planting project. This is a stipend agreement where the Climate Connector will receive $500 on completion of the final project. All climate connectors will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the projects we do with the help of our resources at VAIPL.
