The Kitcheneers want YOU!

KITCHENEERS are not a small group, but rather connective tissue between all the groups. We train church and group members on how to operate kitchen equipment and ensure safe prep & serving of food. We reinforce compliance with church rules on forbidden food items. We provide Coffee service every Sunday. We are available as an in-house catering service for group events, memorial services, & church-wide events. We sponsor the Annual Thanksgiving meal and monthly Soulful Suppers. We are an excellent platform for meeting and getting to know other 1st UU members and developing community camaraderie. Time commitment is as much or as little as you want.  Kitcheneers is a volunteer function for providing food for First UU events such as serving Soulful Suppers, Thanksgiving potluck, coffee service, refreshments for memorials, celebrations, VIP visitors, etc.

If you are interested in helping with an event, email kitcheneers@richmonduu.org and mention the event(s) in your memo line.

Kitcheneers is rearranging itself into Teams to allow You to do what you love most about entertaining guests, and even avoid what you most dislike about it. You can belong to as many Kitcheneer Teams as you like! Here we go:

  • Coffee Ministry – Ensure coffee & beverage service is up and ready for Church Services and special events.
  • Soulful Supper – Assist the host Groups in set-up, serving, and clean-up for monthly dinners.
  • Thanksgiving – The Team makes sure everything – Everything, upstairs and down – goes smoothly at 1st UU’s Annual Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner.
  • Special Events – Serve our Beloved Community by presenting gracious and hospitable food & beverage service for Celebrations of Life and Memorial Services, VIP visits, Cabarets, Special Dinners, and the like. The Team will have members to run the Kitchen Equipment, Table Setting, Wait Staff & Runners, and Food & Beverage Preparation.
  • Foodies – If Cooking for Others is your deal, this is where you want to be. You can cook at home and bring it in for the event, or use our fine Kitchen to prepare “in situ.”
  • Steering Committee – This committee oversees All Things Kitchen. For any questions you may have but don’t know who to ask, contact Kitcheneers@richmonduu.org.

Separate email addresses will be set up for each team, to make sure you’re not bombarded by emails that don’t pertain to you.

Also, a new Kitcheneer enrollment form is in the works, so you can sign up for the Teams that suit your fancy. The Kitcheneer Volunteer Form will be rolled out at the Small Group Fair on September 21st.

To the Brim: Filling Our Cupboards and Our Team

The Kitcheneers are hosting a kitchen drive for some items that we need:

Mugs: We’re running on empty! Bring in your unwanted (non-fragile) mugs over the next two Sundays.
Milk Crate: Needed to store and transport our expanded mug collection.
Funnels: Seeking various sizes (ideally with a 1-inch+ bottom opening).
Slow Cookers: Seeking two 6-quart (or larger) units in good working order.
Extra Hands: Whether you are a cook, a baker, or coffee maker, or just like to run heavy equipment (have you seen the dishwasher?!), we can always use more hands for our many events.

How to Help:

  1. Drop off mugs/crates in the “dirty” bin at coffee hour.
  2. Email Beth with photos of funnels or slow cookers to coordinate.
  3. Volunteer by reaching out to Larry “Jambalaya” Landon
