First UUs in Support of Indigenous Peoples (FUUSIP)
Did you know that Columbus Day is still a Federal Holiday and a Virginia State Holiday?
Only 10 States + the District of Columbia have passed Indigenous Peoples Day (IPD) legislation. And three States have passed IPD legislation and KEPT Columbus Day.
Be a part of the Indigenous Peoples Day Initiative
According to Rick Tatnall – Founder of The Pocahontas Project – “The IPD Initiative is not just a name change – it is about establishing national pride in a national holiday, collective pride that will help to unify the USA offering a positive look forward, with special attention to our youth, the future leaders of the world.” We agree!

Purpose Statement:
First UUs in Support of Indigenous Peoples gather and work to continue our individual and collective education to witness and begin to address Indigenous erasure. We will work to find ways to raise awareness and educate ourselves about the injustices inflicted on Indigenous peoples and find meaningful ways to give back based on the needs expressed by Virginia tribes.
