There are many ways, small and large, to defend democracy and defend our marginalized siblings.

Below are just some of the ways to resist, ways that we have learned about through a variety of sources, some of which are linked in this box.

We can’t begin to provide you with every resource – we encourage you to find the one that speaks to your heart most loudly, and start there.

Following are just some of the local organizations with whom you might work. If you know of others, please send them to us, we’ll add them to this resource list:

LEARNING CAN BE RESISTANCE
“GABRIEL”

“Gabriel,” an inspiring new musical playing at Hanover Tavern in Hanover, VA. An official program of the Virginia 250 Commission (VA250), “Gabriel” brings to life the people and events surrounding Gabriel’s Rebellion, one of the most significant uprisings of enslaved people in American history.

Gabriel was a blacksmith who grew into the leader of the largest planned uprising of enslaved people in American history with reportedly more than 1,000 followers spanning across the state. These patriots fighting for freedom march across the Hanover Tavern stage under the rallying cry “Death or Liberty.”
