Buddha said that a loving friend would be prepared “to sacrifice his life for his friend.” Some five centuries later, Jesus said, “Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friend.” On this Sunday before Memorial Day, Lee Anne will guide us in exploring what it means to embody our values and will lead us in honoring those who have given “the last full measure of devotion.”

April 23, The Tree of Life, Intern Minister Lee Anne The tree of life appears as a symbol in many world religions and philosophies. It has been depicted through poetic expression, film, art, and music. Charles Darwin even referred to it. On this Earth Day, Lee Anne will explore the relationship between an appreciation of the tree of life and our seventh principle — respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part.

March 12, Speaking Truth to Power: Rizpah and the Village that Supported Her, Intern Lee Anne Washington Lee Anne will share with us the story of one of her pesonal heroines and role models for effectively speaking truth to power. As courageous, powerful, and effective as Rizpah’s witness was, she couldn’t have done it alone – it took a village to support her. Lee Anne invites us to consider what we are willing and able to do in the pursuit of justice.

Vespers

Vespers is an intimate, contemplative, and conversation- a half hour service led by our ministerial interns which takes place on Wednesday evenings from 5:30 to 6:00 in the Great Hall. We welcome you and appreciate you just as you are and whenever you can join us. Vespers is followed by a simple supper (often soup, salad, and bread) from 6:00 to 6:45 and a class taught by our ministers from 6:45-8:15. Why not join us for it all? In our March Vespers services, we will be exploring five of the nine fruits of the spirit and will be considering how we can generously manifest them in the world around us.
